Bank of Japan’s policy rate and press conference
The Bank of Japan will deliver its monetary policy statement at 06:15 MT time on June 16. The rate announcement will be followed by a press conference at 09:30 MT time.
Both events can have a significant impact on JPY. At its last meeting, the BOJ’s officials left their interest rate and ultra-loose monetary policy settings unchanged because of the stubbornly low inflation rate. Most of market participants don’t expect additional easing measures from the central bank’s officials this time.
If the Bank of Japan sounds optimistic about the national economy and inflation, the yen will have a chance to strengthen. Pessimistic comments of the regulator, on the contrary, will make the JPY suffer.
